Who Doesn’t Love A Bargain?

We all love a bargain, don’t we? What is it that excites us so much when we find a bargain? Is it because we feel we’re saving a bit of money? Or do we just like the idea that we’ve paid less than what the item is worth? And how about finding a bargain plus a senior discount? Win-win! Heck, if you can save a few dollars more with a “senior discount” why not?

Whether you’re 55, 60, 62, or 65, or somewhere in between there’s a “senior discount” to be had at many service providers, restaurants and retailers!  Many people don’t necessarily like the label “senior citizen” (I don’t). However, here’s the good news that label can pay off with discounts up to 20 percent (maybe more).

And if you’re an AARP Member, your “Senior Discounts” start at the ripe old age of 50!

So, the next time your looking to purchase a product or service, consider these suggestions for possible discounts for consumers 55+:

Travel – If you’re looking to take a train trip, then consider the discounts available on Amtrak. Many airlines also offer a discount on flights. Be sure to contact the airline to see what may be available. Remember when you book a hotel room or rent a car, check for any age appropriate discounts!

National Parks –  As an older adult 55+, you can head to many National Parks like Yellow Stone or Zion Park for less money than your adult children.

Retailers – Many retailers offer senior discounts. Sometimes they even offer a Senior day on a specific day of the week.

Auto Repair – You could save money on tires, repairs, and maintenance items. Some stores include Pep Boys and Jiffy Lube.

Drug Stores – When filling your prescriptions at Walgreens, CVS, or Rite-Aid why not take advantage of any senior discounts they might offer in-store.

Restaurants – Many popular restaurants provide discounts or freebies like beverages or desserts. When you place an order, ask your server if they offer a senior discount.

There are ways to score deals year round, not just during the holidays or with senior discounts. One such way is by keeping up with “daily deal” sites.

Deal sites offer steep discounts on retail, restaurants, travel, home services and more. Deals are usually only available for a limited amount of time, so consumers searching for a deal on a particular item will want to act fast when that item does get discounted.

And keep in mind, that many businesses don’t make senior discounts public knowledge so make sure that you ask a sales associate or server if said business you are patronizing offers a senior discount. Who knows you could save anywhere from 5% up to 20% (or more) by simply asking.
