New Entrepreneurial Trends in Illinois to Watch This Year

Illinois as the biggest market of the Midwest and home to more than two thousand corporate headquarters, an active business scene, and more than 1.2 million small businesses, is home to the infrastructure that firms require to flourish in the current business climate. From the world-class infrastructure that connects companies to suppliers and customers, to a talented workforce in various industries and a thriving manufacturing base, Illinois leads in many areas such as clean and advanced technology, agriculture, energy, life sciences transportation logistics.
Illinois has seen a huge international investment growth in recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the countries that most investing in Illinois in 2023. By that time, the amount reached over USD $13.2 billion across agricultural, manufacturing, and other areas in Illinois all by itself.
Since 2014, nearly $1 billion in incentives have been awarded under Illinois Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to businesses that offer electric vehicles and clean energy production. The program was announced last month. DCEO also rewarded PsiQuantum Manufacturing with an incentive package totaling over 200 million dollars for their new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in East Alton.

Governor JB Pritzker was joined by representatives from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network and local officials today in Chicago to officially launch CZ Biohub Chicago - a cutting-edge research hub that is at the forefront of cutting-edge research. This project will bring together University of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign State University (UIUC) and Northwestern University researchers to study human tissue development as well as develop groundbreaking therapeutics.
Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they have expanded their factory in Elgin, creating 50 full-time employment while keeping the 140 full-time jobs they have currently.
The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded through a collaborative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The center provides entrepreneurs from the local area with help in starting or expanding their businesses with services that include free workshops on business planning and one-on-one sessions with experienced Business Advisors as well as access to financing options.
State officials in Indiana are pushing employers to offer better salaries and benefits as a way to keep child care workers working across the nation as they face a shortage of work. This follows the closure of a care center in Bronzeville which struggled to retain staff.
Illinois Department of Labor also launched an online tool designed to help small businesses understand the laws governing employment. Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) is working to promote awareness of Illinois tax incentives that can be used for business expansion. They hosted a webinar this week on this subject, which was recorded. It will then appear on the website.
