Sunshine Enterprises
Sunshine Enterprises' goal is to help entrepreneurs with high potential in underresourced neighborhoods to expand their enterprises and change their communities. The way to achieve this is through their 12 week Community Business Academy, and the continuous Business Acceleration Service assistance, including microgrants, workshops and coaching.
Sunshine gives entrepreneurs access to the financial support that can be the most significant obstacle to establishing or expanding a business. Sunshine's Business Coaches meet one-on-one with every entrepreneur to assess what type of financial assistance is needed and develop a strategy to get the funding. Additionally, Sunshine works with a network of financing partners including Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, Byline Bank, CIBC Bank and Wintrust Community Bank among many others.
The model of Rising Tide Capital is the inspiration behind this non-profit's operation. President Obama recognized Rising Tide Capital for their Community Business Academy which has contributed to the revitalization of areas and improve lives. 94% graduates are now able to launch new businesses or create jobs.
Sunshine Enterprises provides local entrepreneurs with support by way of UChicago Local. The partnership between UChicago Local and UChicago Medicine enables realigning procurement departments so as to use the services of local suppliers who can offer competitive bids, helping grow small business in Chicago's economy, while also contributing to projects that impact the social environment at the university. UChicago Local also links local entrepreneurs supported through Sunshine Enterprises with other programming including Chicago Innovation Exchange or Institute for Justice Clinic for Entrepreneurship in Law School - further expanding possibilities.
Incubatoredu
INCubatoredu provides students with the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship in a real way while they develop their own startup company. The students are assisted by a mentor or coach during each class to assist them in their projects, such as removable foot pads that can be cleaned and social applications.
Students are taught to enhance their concepts as they progress through the program. This includes conducting market research, idea and customer research, prototyping, and pitches. This helps to develop collaboration, communication, problem-solving skills as well as teaching students how quickly they can adapt to changing conditions.
